Episode 03: Mother[work]

This is probably the broadest chapter covering stories of both the dark and light sides of being a nanny. It begins with each of the narrators immigration to the US and getting their first jobs. The second part is a collection of stories of the challenges in the day to day work of being a nanny. There was a lot of content I could choose from for this chapter and I struggled to find the right balance of the bad and good. Being a nanny can be lonely; and there is an infuriating amount of exploitation involved in inherent power imbalance with many employers. I heard many of these stories over the course of my interviews and they're important. But it’s also a job that can bring incredible empowerment and love to those who give themselves to the work. I think you need to see both sides to really understand. These are just a few stories of becoming and being a nanny.
